Welcome to the online B2 space.

The work below supplements the work we do in class. It is good to know who the other people are who are working at your level, so first of all, go to the discussion space (sclick on the discussion tab, above right) Then open the "Introduce yourself" discussion and take part.

For university students:

You need to have the course materials as well for some of the exercises, but some are also self contained and you can do them independently.

The Class Blog
This is the wiki where you will find information and a lot of activities to help you learn. There is also a class blog, however, that you should look at regularly because that is where messages are posted and every week you can look at:
a) an overview of your lessons:
b) class notes (if there were any that week)
c) preparation for the next week.
This is very useful for everyone (and not only when you miss a lesson)

Week One

Welcome to a new course! If you are at a B2 level, it means that you have probably already studied the basic grammar systems of English, but may need to revise and extend these areas putting everything together so that you can use it all confidently.

What's my level and what do I need to do?

In the first lesson we look at what is in the B2 test. Read through the information to see what you need to be able to do. Then you need to decide what your level is and what you need to improve on.To do this it is also useful to look at the Common European Framework, and how levels are described there. You can do this test and then evaluate your own levels. You can then check your answers by looking at p.27 of the Common European Framework of Reference.




Week Two


Getting to Know Each Other
In class we discussed "treasured possessions" and what they say about us. Here is the link to the noticeboard where you should:
a) add a photo of a "revealing corner" of your house or bedroom, fridge etc.
b) a short text posted at random on the page (NOT NEXT TO THE PHOTO) This makes it fun because we can then decide which text matches which picture. (Your text, of course, willl be in English)

This week we start working on your language in particular Personality and Psychology. In class we studied and increased our knowledge of useful adjectives to describe personality and then we did a listening exercise. See the worksheet below:

What is Collocation?

last week, and this week too, we started thinking about vocabulary or "lexis" as not simply "single words" but as words that work together to communicate things. One area that can be useful to notice when you are using a different language is collocation.
Go to the vocabulary skills page and watch the video on "Collocation" to get a better idea of what it is and how you can study it.
